The students took over this week as we delved deeper into our exploration of two and three digit addition. The children were given the opportunity to "teach" the class as they walked us through the steps to addition problems. Having learned both the partial sums method for addition, as well as the traditional algorithm with carrying, I thought some examples may benefit the parents. Let's face it, helping with homework can be hard when you don't know the strategies your children are expected to be using. I hope the videos below help!
Here we are shown the traditional method of adding with carrying.
Above you will find a explanation of the partial sums method of addition.
This does help, we learned so differently back in the day!
ReplyDeleteI like the strategies our grand children are expected to be using in math.I wish I should learn in my Japanese elem school.
